Who am I and what the heck is this?
In philosophy there is something called the principle of explosion. The idea is that if there is a contradiction in the assumptions of a statement you can prove anything.
My name is Spencer Powell. I come from a Cognitive Science education and a web development professional background. I work in communications, I advocate vociferously for what I believe in, I have many biases, and I believe there should be a resource for people to learn more about the promises their lives depend on.
What is true can be very hard to figure out – we live in a complicated world with a lot of very loud voices contradicting one-another and competing for your attention. Luckily we are all imbued with a special ability that doesn’t rely on an objective truth to know when we’re being misled. There is a fundamental kernel in all of us that recognizes when we are confronted with a contradiction ie: when we are being lied to.
This project’s purpose is to catalog the political promises that are being made to win your votes and shape your lives. I can’t guarantee this website will be objective because I sure ‘aint. I hope I can provide enough information in an accessible way and leave the analysis in your hands.
If you would like to help with this project, I’d appreciate it. I’m one guy with very poor work/life balance. Send an email to contact@promisetracker.ca and we’ll talk about it.
Finally, a special thanks to https://www.polimeter.org for the inspiration, Tawnee for the lovely logo and feedback (you should buy their stuff and get their tattoos), and many other friends and strangers. Nothing on this site is AI-generated and nothing on this site ever will be. This is just the beginning.
