Statement
Lock in Long-Term Funding – We’ll turn VPL’s Facilities Master Plan into a public, funded, 10-year capital commitment. It’s time we funded libraries purposely and with intention. We’ll work with unions, city staff, and other partners in order to lock in long-term funding and a plan so that libraries aren’t left to fall apart under our noses. Community Choice Fund – Nobody knows what a neighbourhood needs better than the people who live there. Think of the community garden that needs a new shed or the cultural group planning its first festival. Too many local organizations and neighbours are shut out from critical funding because their needs don’t fit neatly into a line item budget. OneCity will create a Community Choice Fund that gives residents, neighbourhoods, and community organizations direct access to funding for the local projects they want to see. This standing municipal fund will combine small neighbourhood grants, matching funds, and partici- patory budgeting. Residents will be able to propose ideas, work with trusted local organizations to shape them, and vote on larger neighbourhood projects. City staff will then back up the distribution of this funding with feasibility reviews, accessibility guidance, and permitting and implementation support. OneCity’s Community Choice Fund will empower our neighbours and democratize the way Vancouver funds the things that foster belonging.
